NDHCE and NBDHE practice options compared
There is more than one way to prepare for a dental hygiene board exam, and the options are built for different jobs. This page sets out what each one is for, so you can choose deliberately.
What each option is for
| Option | What it is | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| DHPrep | Independent NDHCE and NBDHE question banks with an explanation for every answer option. | Practising the reasoning, not just the answer, with one-time passes. |
| Quizlet | A general flashcard and study-set platform used across many subjects. | Recall drilling on cards you or someone else has written. |
| Board Vitals | A subscription question-bank service for healthcare board examinations. | Buying a question bank as part of a wider board-prep subscription. |
| StudentRDH | Dental hygiene exam preparation built around a course-style programme. | Following a structured course rather than practising question by question. |
Those descriptions are a short summary of what each service publishes about itself. Check each site for current features and pricing before you commit to anything.
Questions worth asking before you pick
- Does every answer option have an explanation, or only the correct one?
- Are the questions mapped to the blueprint the exam actually publishes?
- Do you buy one exam at a time, or is the price tied to a renewal you did not ask for?
- Can you try real questions from the bank before paying anything?
- Does the practice workspace resemble the exam workflow you will sit in?
What DHPrep does and does not do
DHPrep runs one question bank per exam: the Canadian NDHCE and the US NBDHE. Each bank holds 2,400 practice questions with an explanation for every answer option, so a wrong answer becomes a reason to understand the reasoning. Practice runs in tutor mode for immediate review, or in timed sets and reserved mock exams for pace and navigation. The workspace adds a question navigator, notepad, bookmarks, adjustable text size, and review of previously missed items.
It does not reproduce the official testing software exactly, and it does not replace your coursework or the official blueprint, candidate guide and tutorial from the FDHRC or JCNDE. Practice results are learning feedback, not an official score, pass prediction, or guarantee.
You can try the bank first: 100 free NDHCE questions or 50 free NBDHE questions, no card required. See the free NDHCE practice questions or the free NBDHE practice questions.
Questions people ask
Is DHPrep affiliated with the FDHRC or JCNDE?
No. DHPrep is an independent question bank. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Federation of Dental Hygiene Regulators of Canada, the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations, or any regulator.
Can I use DHPrep for both the NDHCE and the NBDHE?
Yes. One account can access both banks, but they follow different exam structures, so progress and paid passes stay separate for each exam.
Is a DHPrep pass a subscription?
No. Complete passes are one-time purchases for 90 or 180 days with no automatic renewal, and each covers only the examination you choose.
